congregational meeting, trustees, and future property

Mercy Church,

On Sunday we are going to have a congregational meeting to elect 3 deacons and 5 trustees. All communing members of our church have a vote. So parents of communing children, I would encourage you to talk with your children and explain to them what we’re doing. We are voting on adding men to our leadership as servant-leader deacons. But also adding trustees who can represent us in official legal matters.

Both of these groups are exceedingly necessary for us as a church. Deacons, because as we are growing as a church so are our needs for leadership in particular areas, which the deacons will joyfully serve. And trustees, because God seems to be providentially providing an opportunity to move forward in our property search.

On Monday of this week Brian, Ed, and I had a meeting with the leadership from Rock Family Church because they are inclined to sell us their property. As it seems to have been providentially arranged and prayerfully considered this is a very legitimate option for us as a church. There is no strong and immediate timeline putting any pressure on us as a church to make any decision, but we are going to prayerfully move forward.

For us as a church the next step in this process is to officially elect these 5 trustees on Sunday in our congregational meeting. The slate of trustees that you can vote for has been selected from officers of the church as well as non-ordained lay persons. They were chosen also based on having been a part of the property committee, so the trustees will essentially become the property committee. As such, when we as a church vote to sell or buy any property they will be empowered to legally represent us and execute whatever plan of action the congregation has voted upon.

Please continue to pray for the leadership of Mercy church, and for us as a collective body to have wisdom, discernment, and faith from the Spirit as we boldly consider how God might be moving us forward.

In Christ,
John D
