A Lasting City?
1 Samuel 27:1-28:2
In this sermon series, we are seeing the roller coaster of David’s life, from heroic giant-slayer and mighty man in Israel, to a man of wavering faith on the run to find hospitality from a king who is Israel’s enemy. As today’s passage closes, we find David in a place of tension between the expectations of Achish and God’s anointing on David as king of Israel. As current day followers of Jesus in an increasingly secular and hostile world, we too will find tension between seeking the welfare of the city while still maintaining our Christian identity. This world is not our home but we celebrate the certainty of the everlasting New Jerusalem.
