1 Samuel 31:1-13

As we close out 1 Samuel and move next week into 2 Samuel, we encounter a text that is laden with darkness and the deaths of Saul and his three sons.  Despite this, Yahweh has promised to overcome death and keep his promises, as we will see in the ascendency of his true anointed King David.  To this day, for those of us who belong to Christ, death is an enemy to be pushed back against as we seek to promote a culture of life.  As we consider that our God is the God of the living, may we remember with gratitude that death is not the end for the believer, and live for him with grit even in the face of deniers and mockers.
