Of Sons, Rebuke, and Grace
1 Samuel 2:11-36
The contrast between the waning priesthood of Eli and the waxing priesthood of Samuel shows us that it’s possible to be familiar with the word of God but not honor it. May we never love the gifts of God as if we deserve them, more than loving God himself and his rule in our lives. In his grace to us, God calls us away from our sin and calls us back to him, often using our brothers and sisters to do so. May we receive his rebuke as a call to repentance and a sign of his love, pointing us toward our great high priest Jesus who fully atones for our sin and lavishes us with his grace.
