Light Into Darkness
1 Samuel 3:1-4:1
At first glance, you might not think that today’s text relates to Christmas or our present time but, on closer examination, it truly does. During the time of the Judges in which today’s text is set, there was great spiritual darkness in the land but the lamp of God had not yet gone out. As then, so also today, we encounter a God whose call to us is regular, personal, passionate and persistent. In the incarnation of our savior, our covenant-keeping God breaks into the darkness with the gospel, just as he does in each one of our hearts when he calls us into his marvelous light.
