All, You have been troopers to say the least. For the past year we have doggedly made our way through the books of 1 and 2 Samuel at the clip of 27 sermons each (we’ve currently had 25 sermons through 2 Samuel with 2 left to go). That’s a long time to have journeyed through a two particular books of the Bible and I want to commend your patient and steadfast obedience. In the age of short clips, when some of the most intellectual and stimulating content we could consume (Ted Talks) average 18 minutes a pop, you have resolutely submitted yourself to the discipline of sitting under God’s Word methodically exposited. It is not flashy. It is not slick. But this past year of journeying through 1 and 2 Samuel, I prayerfully hope, has fed your hearts, minds, and souls. As we near the end of this particular journey we can gird our loins in preparation for another, albeit a shorter on through some New Testament land. When we finish going through Samuel, we will then embark on a 16 week sermon series through the epistles of John (1, 2, and 3 John). That will take us almost into the summer, at which time I’m not entirely sure what will be preached through next. But I would love to hear your suggestions! In addition to this I would like to consider another matter. We have put a hold on any Sunday evening programming for a season, particularly as we have been preparing to purchase a building. But as that decision looms near I would like you to consider something the Session has endorsed for this next season of the life of our church: evening Sunday worship. There are a few reasons, both practical and theological that lead to this decision. This article gets to some of the theological and historical reasons for evening worship. Additionally, the PCA confesses in the Shorter Catechism #89 that “The Spirit of God maketh the reading, but especially the preaching, of the word, an effectual means of convincing and converting sinners, and of building them up in holiness and comfort, through faith, unto salvation.” This seems to me a good reason to have another service, as God does something through preaching that he does not do simply in the act of bible study discussion (as good and helpful as that is for the Christian life, make no mistake about that!) We’ll keep fleshing out the details, but for now please know that an evening service will have a decidedly different feel from the morning — more congregational involvement, shorter sermon, etc. As we move closer to acquiring a new building more details will be filled in, but until then if you have any questions, comments, concerns, or complaints please don’t hesitate to reach out to the session! See y’all tomorrow! In Christ, John D |

| —Property Update The Property committee met on Wednesday evening to review our legal documents, including our rental agreement with Rock Family Church. As such, those documents have been sent to the leadership of RFC so they can review them. We are still waiting to hear back from them, so we can in turn send the documents out to the congregation to prepare for our next congregational meeting. —Songs for Sunday Here’s what we’re singing this Sunday if you’d like to familiarize yourself with tunes + lyrics!
