| “Grace has not a body to appear visibly. Yes, but Christ appeared; and when he appeared it was as if grace and love had been incarnate, and took a body. So that grace and mercy most of all shines in the incarnation of Christ.” –Richard Sibbes |
| —Preparing for Sunday Here are a few things to help you prepare for worship this Sunday: Morning Sermon: Matthew 13:1-23 “The Soils” by Rev. Dr. Peter Green Lo He Comes With Clouds Descending In Tenderness Psalm 31 (O Come, O Come Emmanuel) Pass Me Not O Gentle Savior On Jordan’s Stormy Banks —Prayer Meeting This Sunday Night We will have a prayer meeting at SMS from 6-7pm this Sunday evening. —Evening Worship Sunday, December 14 We will have our regularly scheduled bimonthly evening worship service at SMS on Sunday, December 14 from 6-7pm. —Lessons And Carols Sunday, December 21 We will celebrate an evening of Lessons and Carols at SMS on Sunday, December 21 at 6pm. We will read several passages of scripture and sing a variety of Christmas hymns together as a church family as we remind each other of the glorious narrative of Scripture that culminates in the person and work of Jesus. —Christmas Eve Service There will be a Christmas Eve worship service at South Middle School at 4:30pm, with a fellowship meal at the Downs’ house immediately following. The church will provide meat if you could bring a side/dessert to share. Please contact Lindsay Downs if you have questions about food. And if you are physically able, I would invite you to fast for some time leading up to that fellowship meal post-worship service. That could be starting in the morning on Christmas Eve and then breaking the fast after worship, or for a longer period of time if you so choose. The point of this is to reorient the heart and mind to the longing that we feel for salvation, as well as be reminded that “man does not live by bread alone.” I’ll extrapolate on this invitation more as we approach this service. —Women’s Christmas Party Please join the women of the church for a gathering at Stone Tower Brews @ 6:00 Friday, December 12 for drinks/ dessert & white elephant gift exchange! Please RSVP to Anne Smittle or Sarah DeNeui. If you would like to meet beforehand at the Wow! Pottery Factory & paint an ornament, please contact Sarah to RSVP. —Meals For The Long Family Next week Sam Long will be studying and taking exams for her masters program. One practical way we can love and support Sam as she juggles her studies while caring for her family is by bringing the Longs a few meals next week. We need coverage for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Please sign up to take or send a meal if you’re able. Here’s the link: https://takethemameal.com/BWGJ6147 |
