“There are critical times of danger. After great services, honours, and consolations, we should stand upon our guard. Noah, Lot, David, Solomon, fell in these circumstances. Satan is a robber: a robber will not attack a man in going to the bank, but in returning with his pocket full of money.” —Thomas Watson, The Christian Soldier, or Heaven Taken by Storm |
Announcements
Here’s just a few announcements for the life of Mercy Church! —No Evening Activities This Sunday This Sunday evening there will be no evening activities for Mercy Church. —Grace Church Buckhannon Particularization The reason that we will not be having any Sunday evening activities is because I will be preaching at the particularization service for Grace Church in Buckhannon, another church in our presbytery. Particularization is a significant moment in the life of a PCA church when they go from being a “mission church,” that is overseen by elders from the presbytery to having their own elders ordained and installed. Grace Church was planted several years ago, and God in his kindness has raised up men to be ordained to the office of elder. As such, there will be a worship service called by the presbytery on Sunday evening at Grace Church to formally make them a particular church. At this service their elders will be formally ordained and installed, as will their pastor. Since we are not having any evening activities at our church this Sunday, you are more than welcome to attend the particularization service at Grace. The service begins at 4pm and will be located at the church building (link to directions). —First Session Meeting Scheduled Because y’all graciously and unanimously approved our temporary session at the congregational meeting last week, we now have the opportunity to get to work. To that end we’ve schedule our first official session meeting on Monday, September 29 at 6pm via Zoom. If anyone is interested in attending that meeting please let me know, and I’ll confirm with the rest of the elders that that would be appropriate. —Songs for Sunday Here’s what we’re singing this Sunday if you’d like to familiarize yourself with tunes + lyrics! In Tenderness O My Soul, Arise Psalm 31 (O Come, O Come Emmanuel) Your Great Name Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah |
