glorious life

“Grace is glory begun, as glory is grace consummated.”
—Francis Turretin

Life in a fallen world is often myopic — meaning we see things up close very clearly, but anything far away is quite blurry. In our day to day lives we often get engulfed in the repetitive nature of our daily minutia wondering what is the point of all this? Why do we keep getting up day after day, and trudge through the drudgeries of life. And over time those little things seem to pile up and send us into a kind of despair — what’s the point of all this? Does any of it matter? Am I making a difference? A redeemed people in a fallen world who still struggle with the vestiges of sin, we need to know that sin makes us myopic, shortsighted, and convinces us of the lie that our lives are small. The Enemy wants to convince us of this smallness, this emptiness, and the pointlessness of what feels like drudgery.

But our God has designed us not for smallness, not for temporary, but for eternity itself — namely with him. Our God has given us purpose — to glorify him in all that we do and enjoy him forever. Everything that feels small and insignificant can be a vehicle of pursuing his glory and our joy when placed against the backdrop of God’s design for us.  Jesus has come into our physical world and therefore declared that the material world is worthwhile and redeemable. But then he also died for our sin, was resurrected in power, and now sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, thereby redeeming and ruling his people.

Now as redeemed people we have our eyes and our hearts lifted from the smallness and immediateness of the material world and know that we have been made for and redeemed for eternity. We live as redeemed people, no longer unto ourselves and our own plans and routines, but unto the one who made us for himself. Because we have been redeemed in this life and filled with the very Holy Spirit we now have the ability to now live unto his glory in doing all things — whether we eat or drink we do all things to the glory of God. In this sense our perspective and purpose shifts from the temporary to the eternal. We were made for eternity, and our calling as Christians is to see that we already possess a foretaste of eternity in Christ. So that all that we do until eternity is realized, is to glorify our God and enjoy him forever.

See y’all on Sunday!
