news and updates from mercy church

“The joy of pardon has a voice louder than the voice of sin. God’s voice speaking peace is the sweetest music an ear can hear.”
—Charles Spurgeon

“He has chosen not to heal me, but to hold me. The more intense the pain, the closer His embrace. The greatest good suffering can do for me is to increase my capacity for God. Real satisfaction comes not in understanding God’s motives, but in understanding His character, in trusting in His promises, and in leaning on Him and resting in Him as the Sovereign who knows what He is doing and does all things well..”

Property Search Update
From the Property Committee:
1) Pray for God’s Providence over the sale of the church’s property on Pleasant Hill Road.  This is a necessary step in order to proceed with the prospective purchase of a building.
2) The Property Committee would like to hold an informational meeting following the service on October 6th.  We will share pertinent details and address questions about the opportunity to purchase the new church property to help inform the congregation as we move through this process.
3)  As has been acknowledged, in order for Mercy Church to move forward with this opportunity, additional funds will need to be raised by the congregation.  To that end, the Session will work to provide more details on that process and is looking for members of Mercy Church that may be willing to help coordinate and communicate the fundraising effort.  If you are willing to help, please contact a member of the Session.

—New Members Class Starting October 6
If you are interested in pursuing membership at Mercy Church, our next new members class will begin on Sunday, October 6. The class runs for 6-8 weeks during the Sunday school hour.

—Prayer/Fellowship Groups
It has been a busy fall in the life of our church, particularly as we’ve been prayerfully considering to sell our property and potentially purchase a new one. This process has created some additional shepherding/administrative work that has kept us from offering study groups as we had in the spring. In light of this current season we would like to organize prayer and fellowship groups for Mercy for the fall semester. These groups would serve to create opportunities for people to get more relationally connected and engaged in the life of Mercy, as well as to continue laboring in prayer as a church family–particularly about selling our property and purchasing a building. What we would like to see is 2-3 households getting together, eating some food, and praying for each other and our church. These groups would commit to meeting together at least 3 weeks in a row, and then at the end of 3 weeks we would reshuffle the groups so there would be a mix of relational dynamics throughout out church body. The food options could be as in depth (a full meal) or as minimal (simple snacks or hors d’oeuvres) as each host family determines. If you are interested in participating or hosting please email the Session and we’ll help get you plugged in.
